Early this morning, I restart my trip (from Culiacan) to Denver but, on the first 10 miles I noticed that the AFR gauge was showing, on flat road at steady 55 MPH, 14.5 - 15.5 instead the usual and healthy 13.5 -14.5. I stoped to look on the engine. Vacuum leaks ?... no. Then, tried to clean any clogged passage on the carbs. using sprayed carb cleaner... no way. Then used the old fashioned and brute way choking suddenly both carbs (at some 2,000 rpm) with my hands and it worked !! The AFR gauge went back to the the right numbers.
When I first installed this gauge just thought on an easier way for tuning but, now I learnt it is an excellent way of monitoring the engine while driving. What could happen without the early warning on this gauge ? I think on overheating with lean mixtures and it could be a bad situation, mostly if most of my today's driving was in ambient temperatures on the 95º-100º F range.
After that 20 minutes stop (and a convincing monologue to the BB), she performed as a road queen till we arrived to overnight at Hermosillo, Sonora. We passed the 1,000 miles line of the trip this afternoon and hope to be into the States by the Nogales, AZ before noon.
Crossing fingers !!!
