The summer of 1968 I spent in Detroit, and, as a native left coaster,
was dismayed to find current model year new cars driving on the street
where one could quit litereally see through them. All the way out the
other side. No, not the glass!
Seemed Detroit was under the Frito-Lay illusion -- eat (use) them up,
we'll make more -- I thought of it at the time as job security for the
locals (who at that time seemed primarily from Mexico and Tennesee).
I was rowing for Ecorse Boat Club that summer, and working at Great
Lakes Steel (the rusty looking plant that made a spectacular cover photo
for National Geographic for a polution article). Some of the steel
rolled there perhaps made it's way into Corvairs (content).
