<VV> AC Bezel

I recently purchase one of the reproduction LM center AC bezels.  It is supposed to attach to the stock inner vent with rivets.  The rivets have a conical shaped washer that I think are supposed to be pushed over the rivet to lock it in place.  It seems they are too small no amount of effort can make them even start over the rivets.  Any help?????  Thanks in advance.
