<VV> metallic brakes - a problem

I had great luck with my Velvetouch brakes. I continued to use the self adjusters. Once the brakes became bedded in, the stopping became awesome and I had great control.

My "problem" occurred when I dropped my car off for inspection. Due to time constraints, I left it with the inspection station the night before. They inspected the car and the final check is a short road trip. My car has a Stage I Yenko motor, so it can be "throaty". The young assistant evidently revved the motor for a hot shot backwards out of the inspection bay. He stepped on the brakes and was horrified when the car didn't stop as he thought was normal. To compound his problem, the entrance apron to the garage sloped downhill to the road which was a 4 lane - full of traffic. Fortunately, the car did stop before it T-boned the traffic! The owner of the shop told me the knocking that they heard were the kids knees. He was more than a little shaken up. The car had no damage. I wonder if he ever made another hot shot out of the garage?

The owner of the shop was very aware of the metallic brake characteristics but didn't expect the kid to exit the way he did. (I'll bet he'd done it before- so he should have expected it.) After that I made very sure that people driving my car knew about the brakes. Even cold I was always able to stop my car. It took more effort on the brake pedal, but it could be done.

That does make sense, but I never experienced any problems running with
self adjusters and Velvetouch brakes.

Nor did I. Velvetouch recommended a fine cut for resurfaced brake drums
(for a smooth friction surface) and "seating the shoes" by doing ten to
twenty quick, no slide stops. I flushed and replaced the brake fluid too. The
already good LM brakes became great brakes with properly installed
Velvetouch shoes. They never faded on me even when heavily loaded going down a s
teep hill.
