  Harley  Davidson ,  is  an  air-cooled  performance  engine  and  recommended  60w  for  many  years [back  in  the  day] .  OF  course  the  Japanese [ Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki] went  right  to  the  lighter  oils [in  the  early '70s]

Yes, I fully agree. In that case the thicker oil does provide a better 
cushion, and it helps to seal up the rings, too. Mark Durham
