i think most motor longevity with today's parts will be much better
because of better lubes and materials. even plain cast iron rings are good for
100k miles or more. how long will it take for most of us to go 100,000
miles? i put between 4 and 10 k a year on the truck. by 10 years , i will
probably not be able to drive.
i am going to use the next better grade of rings etc on this newest motor ,
but i have not seen rings worn on most motors, i have seen broken ones
from abuse (such as detonation etc ) but not worn to the point of heavy
consumption. most ring failure now is detonation or overheating . all of the
above does not apply to constant racing or turbo use.....
i did see a problem in a motor using total seal gapless rings...maybe lack
of upper lube because of the too good sealing..it was not on a turbo.
actually , i want a small amount of oil consumption for upper lube , even
if i have to add a little to the gas. good for guides and rings etc. this
takes place of our missing lead.
