I always went the route of "change your oil , not your motor" , but my
present car (SRX V6 awd) has 117,000 on it with oil changes at @4-7500 miles
on Mobil one as demanded by the manufacturer. transmission oil and power
steering fluid were changed at 100,000 miles as indicated by the computer
readout, and still looked new. I cant believe the size of the oil filter on
this thing , not much bigger than a fuel filter. I don't care , it runs great.
I am taking a 64 WB motor apart right now that must have had "high paraffin
" oil in it. it has the worst build up of black waxy slime in the valve
cover area I ever saw , but center is not that bad. I have not removed the
pan , or ends of the block yet..
MOST newer oils hold up well in corvairs for 4-5,000 miles or more as i
see it? Todays oils do not let the crud settle out like the old stuff did.
If you put fresh drained oil in a glass jug , old fashion oils would settle
out all the crud , new oils will not do that. That supposedly shows that
the oil is doing it's job , and stays slippery also.
