<VV> Engine oil & changing filters

As a 180 Turbo owner I decided to use AMSOIL AMO 10w-40 100% synthetic oil
in my engine (yes it has ZDDP in it). My decision was not base on the 10,000
mile oil change recommended by AMSOIL but the fact it will not coke up my
Turbo. However after about 4000 miles the oil was getting pretty dark and at
8000 I decided to change it as it was getting really black. I mentioned this
to my AMSOIL dealer and he said that I should have been changing my filter
at the recommended engine MFG change interval of 3000 miles. I was not told
that by anyone when I started buying AMSOIL 2 years ago.:-(

Ron's right, current oil formulations are superior to the past. Oil lasts.

I've moved my oil changes to 6,000 miles , up from 3k.

On my newer cars that have Oil Life monitoring, I go by that.

The algorithms they use are impressive, and really tell you, 'it's time'.

Interestingly, it's around 6,000 miles.
