The issue was based on the statement by a previous poster, that he found 
staples on the seal strip of a Los Angeles-built car.

Others have wondered if after they were discontinued at Willow Run, perhaps 
they continued to use them in Los Angeles
at the Van Nuys plant. I added that my own car, a 65, was the 21,373rd down 
the line and it showed no use of staples
to hold the rubber into the metal retainer strips. The metal strips also 
include four curved corner segments.
