Ray, check out this web site on the 12SI internally regulated
alternator. You could use the 10SI mentioned, however, the 12 SI
retains the case look of the original corvair alternator.

What I did is I found a 12 SI at 78 amps as a rebuilt unit somewhere,
then switched out the front housing with a front housing off a old 37
amp used corvair alt I bought used off of Ebay, switched in the new
bearing in the front housing, and there you have it. Easy as pie.
Don't know about the heat problems, mine has been in place for two
years, but it rarely gets above 95 here.
