<VV> coil voltage (stock)

For those with turbos, where the stock ignition system just doesn't get
it, I always thought having a boost operated switch to bypass the
ballast resistor (or wire) would be a great idea! After all, as the
RPMs climb, current to the system drops due to the higher impedance at
higher frequencies.
Just a thought...

I was taught that higher coil voltage will tend to burn up points
quicker.
However it also provides a hotter spark. That's why full voltage is
provided
during cranking. If you have something over 9.5 volts or so check
points more
often or change out your resister wire to decrease voltage at the coil.

Ok thanks Harry, your input is very much appreciated. I thought that a
constant 11 volts while running could overheat the coil and cause it to
start failing, I know I've been warned against ever running a stock
coil on
a jumper direct from the battery for more than a few minutes (hotwire)
for
that reason, but then that would be 13 plus volts I guess.
I'll put in new points and see, thanks for saving me the expense of
replacing a coil that might not be bad (it's less than a year old).
