Sounds like a points issue...if your using points...

Subject: <VV> coil voltage (stock)

Hiya guys,

Today the 63' started acting up again (stumbling and quit once) and I'm
beginning to suspect that the coil is getting cooked. I checked voltage
going into the coil with the engine at idle and at about 2k RPM. I got 10.4
at idle and 11.1 at 2,000RPM... Do I remember correctly that it should be
much lower? If I recall it should be 7 volts or so? Assuming this is
higher than it should be I'll just run a new wire from the firewall and put
a new resistor in, I might even have one laying around if I can find it.

......
=================================
That voltage does sound a little high, but with the engine running there is a lot of activity in the low voltage primary circuit that might fool a voltmeter. I think I would check (measure) the points condition and adjustment first.

point "resistance" (voltage drop) with engine off, but ignition switch to on, and points closed should be less than 0.5 volts and can be measured with any old multimeter with a low dc voltage scale. It the voltage drop is low enough the points contact surfaces are in good condition. I still might run a strip of index carb soaked in brake clean or alcohol thru there.

Point dwell should be around 32 degrees and should not vary a whole lot when the engine is revved.

if those two tests are OK I don'w worry about points for a while
