It's one abominable piece of editing.

Time for some "Tech Guide" history and some understanding.

The original Tech Guide - now viewed (in hindsight only) as Volume 1, was
assembled from Photocopies of Corsa Communiques and original typed and
written documents. It was pasted up - with a lot of hard work - and presented in
printed form for Corsa membership to buy. (Thank you Clay Wispell and
Larry Claypool!) At that time, the intent was to continue to update it - it
was delivered in loose leaf format, 3-ring holes punched.

Skip forward 10 years.

Now the computer was being used to assemble the Communique and much of the
data for Volume 2 was already for assembly into the second issue. At that
time, Volume 2 was released in two forms. First, as an insert that could be
added to a member's ten-year old Volume 1. It included a replacement index
page for each section (Let's call this "exhibit A") which listed the volume
1 items and added the volume 2 items. The additional Volume 2 pages also
included, where needed, a replacement for the last page of volume 1. (Let's
call this page "exhibit B"). Volume 2 as also offered as a complete "Tech
Guide" package. Volume 1 was re-compiled into the same computer format as
the new Volume 2 and it was offered to Corsa members. The "exhibit B" page
was closely matched to both the new Volume 2 and the newly computerized
volume 1. But, maybe not perfectly. This version was offered on CD-ROM for the
first time.

Skip forward 10-12 more years.

Volume 3 was compiled from 10+ more years of the Communique, all of which
had been computer generated. Although I had an original Volume 1- updated
to Volume 2, I also had an original printed volume 2 (which was the
combined volume 1 and 2) - I bought a volume 3 update at the convention in Iowa,
as well as the CD-ROM version. When I got home, I integrated the volume 3
pages into the volume 1+2 version I had in the binder. (Note that this was not
a volume 1 updated to volume 2, it was the 1+2 publication) It worked
perfectly. The replacement index page (exhibit A) for each chapter included
the portion of the volume 1 that originally (in my 1+2) had been on the back
of the index. In addition it included a replacement "exhibit B" page for
the places where a blank page had been left. Integrating this meant removing
and discarding the last pages of many chapters and the index pages of every
chapter. Now this took some effort, and it included some inspection and
judgement to tell when to do it. (I just looked back at 10-11 chapters of my
integrated issue, including the spark plug tables - they are fine!)

All I can take from Mark's rude, crude and uncalled-for rantings is that
he was either (A) trying to update an original volume 1 that had been
updated (correctly?) to volume 2 - This might have left a few inconsistencies
between chapters. Or (B) he is incapable of realizing the method used to
provide an "updatable" document. or (C) Mark was "obviously incompetent,
drunk, or stoned out of his mind".

Not sure which - But then, who am I to judge? Eh Mark?

PS - The new, complete Corsa Tech Guide is a very valuable document. Don't
let anybody tell you different.

I will be a parts vendor on the field at the Fan Belt Toss at Palm Springs
and I would be happy to handle the sale of the Corsa Tech Guides and
Corvair Basics books. I am sure someone will contact me.
