Not when applied to a camber compensator -- Chevrolet never supplied one
for the Corvair -- camber limiting straps, yes. Multiple after market
suppliers have offered "camber compensators" for the rear of both swing
axle Corvairs and VW products, some of which actually work when
installed as directed.

I was speaking of the Corvair as the factory produced it ... the item everyone refers to as a 'Camber Compensator'

agreed.

What? I gather you've never broken one of the transverse spring end
bolts on a 1964 -- that rear "skid plate" actually does something when
it happens. There is no way a car with just the 64 rear coil springs
does not need additional lift in the rear! Honest John!

Please reread my statement. The point was the understeer condition can be altered by changing springs ONLY. Chevrolet could have changed the spring rate and made up for the softer spring by making it longer. The transverse spring is quite a costly addition to ONLY change the degree of understeer. Yes, that spring does carry part of the weight of the car but that is not the underling reason it is there.
