I have replaced the fuel pump on my 67 with an external electric unit from Larry's Corvair Parts. I mounted it to the rear of the front suspension cross member. That puts it below the tank and out of harms way. I used a Painless fuel pump relay kit to wire it up. Also bought the aluminum plug for the old fuel pump hole from Larry. That was over two years ago. Works great.
