Upon releasing the key, normal, ballasted

to steal a Corvair.

Mike - I made it even easier - but not for that reason. I took a remote
starter. A real cheap one, plastic housing and button, and built a
all-purpose, late-Corvair starter. I used both a male and a female connector from
that starter feed, and built an intermediate harness that is inserted in
between the stock ones, an additional third wire with a large clip goes to the
hot side of the battery. I added a small SPST micro switch in the plastic
housing and you have instant start and a switch for power to the coil.
Although I use it to start, run and stop the motor from the engine compartment
while tuning, etc. - You could hot-wire and start a Vair in about 10 seconds.
It would probably work as well on a Chevelle or any other GM car of the
era. It won't work as well on my racing Corvair, because the battery - and
the convenient 12 volt terminal - is in the front trunk.
