<VV> Pinging Question

Could it be that there are no deposits built up yet that can cause pinging,
but that they are just "lurking" ?
So, using hi-test (91+) can prevent or forestall that problem ?
The original owner of my 1967 Monza complained that it pinged and knocked so
badly that he was going to have it crushed, but I bought her before he could
haul her away !
I did not realize at the time that the wrong can could be so severe, and
thought I was looking at major engine work, but I could not let her go to
the crusher.
I bought the car, barely making it the 20 miles home even in short "hops"
with stops to "breathe" and cool down.
I didn't know about the octane be being a problem, but I treated her to a
tank of 91 octane and was pleasantly surprised that the pinging went away
about 100 miles or so.
Maybe you got lucky and you have a good engine that is more tolerant of low
octane ?
Still though, buying hi-test is a minimal investment to avoid future
problems, even if they're not a problem now ?
Good luck !
Charlie
