 Some luck rubbed off on me. I cleaned the end of the broken screw, center 
punched it, used 4 drills to get the old screw out, tapped the hole (1/4-20) and 
the new screw just screws in like nothing happened.

 Luck was getting the punch in the center and having JUST enough room to get the 
drill and bits into position. Tomorrow I'll replace the assy.  Thanks for the 
assistance.
