Oops - Charlie is right; the pulley is above the column.
Memory is failing, I guess.

My 1967 with correct parts has no clearance issues, but I'm not sure what
you man by the cable routed over the under-column pulley, since my right
most pulley (directly off the p-bake handle, is above the column - see pix :
