Things that come to mind. Fouled plug, bad plug wire, weak valve spring, a
rocker getting ready to break. But, you are right to start with a
compression check. I don't know about Pertonix (sp?), so can't speak to
that.

it developed a bad miss under load, but at idle and up to 40 MPH there
isn't a miss... he lost his muffler, so he can't hear if a seat has dropped

to have a FULL 12V going to it, and NOT hooked up at the coil??? His is
