Clark,

That's a great question. Recently I went through my stash of doors looking to lighten the load and gain some storage space. If the door wasn't perfect I scrapped it as I could not find any one who wanted them, but before scrapping a door I did remove hinges and latches.

I did notice one oddity. One set of doors off the same car were different from each other. I saw that the previous owner had swapped the hinges to make the doors work.

I haven't really studied this in great detail, but I would guess the door hinges are NOT unique to the car, but are unique to the year of door. Use the correct hinge to the door lets you mount it to a different year body.

I'll dig through my pictures and see what I have.

I helped a DACC member haul A 1965 convertible body home the other day.  He
plans on replacing a rusty 1969 convertible body with this good one.
The doors on the 1965 are both dented and he says he will use the 1969
doors.  I said I don't think they will work as the hinges are different.
Is there any way to swap hinges or use 1969 doors on a 1965?
I also mentioned the difference in side marker lights and steering columns
but that didn't discourage him.  Heck, even the brake master cylinder is
different.
His lady friend is insistent that the car end up a 1969 but I tried to
encourage them to just restore the 1965 and be done with it!
