<VV> LM wheel cylinders / brake hoses / brake lines

Guys,
I'm having some problems with my front brakes.  I had a spare wheel cylinder - but the brake hose thread is too small.

If the brake hose thread changed - when was the changeover?  Is the 3/16" earlier than the 1/4"?

I also need to change the brake line to the right front - can I sneak it past the gas tank without dropping the tank?
