Charlie the lubricant used needs to flow therefore grease is not the
correct choice. Neither is gear oil, it is too thin and will leak.
The solution to your problem is either find some GM steering box
lubricant (not likely) or make your own by mixing chassis grease with
STP until you get a viscous, pourable solution. You will need to
carefully warm the mix on a hot plate to make it mix easily. Been
doing it for years and works well. If straight grease is used, when
the box is opened up you can see a hole in the middle of the grease
where the shaft has turned. It does not flow and refill the hole so
you are getting NO lubrication.
