<VV> 65 FC Shift linkage and gas tank swapped into 61 FC

Having found it impossible to shift my 61 rampside, because a worn-out ball
and socket kept popping apart, I opted to swap it out with my 65 greenbrir van
parts car. When I started to take the linkage on the 65 apart, dang if it
dousent have the same ball and socket also worn out.   Has any one done this
swap you can give me some advice on how to make this work?
