If that had happened to me I would have drained the filter, magnetized a tap and clamped it in my vise. Then I would carefully run the filter down on the tap, back flush the filter, refill and reinstall it on the engine. I would probable check every new filter from then on :-[

But, it reminds me of a day when a friend of mine came to my garage, three sheets to the wind, to work on his race car. The plan was to attach the bottom of a rear shock by laying across the rear of the car and reaching down to start the nut by hand. He picked up a new nut from the drawer and set to the task. After a few minutes I heard him start grumbling ... soon he was 'turning the air blue.'

What is wrong? I said. Can't get the nut to start ... I took over the job and gave it a try but, it felt odd. One look at the new nut answered the question ... not a thread one. It had missed the tapping operation :-))

Last Friday, I decided it was oil change day, so I went to one of our flaps, got my
oil, got the filter (I rather liked the fact that
I could get the oil filter, in stock!), went home, promptly drained the oil while it was
nice and hot, replaced and re-torqued the drain
plug, removed the old filter, dumped the old oil out into my special drain pan (fits under
the oil pan, with a screw-on funnel), filled the
new oil filter with oil, smear new oil on the oil filter gasket, set the oil filter under
the oil filter mount, set the perfectly clean oil filter mounting
bolt on the oil filter threads, begin hand threading the bolt home- just like I always
do. This time, however, I'm beginning to think I've
forgotten how to screw the bolt in, as I cant seem to get the threads started. I
carefully removed the oil filter, and after a few more unsuccessful
tries at starting the bolt, I found the problem- THAT M&TH%RF%%%!! oil filter had no
center threads! It was just a hole!
