<VV> Need some help on a 1968 smog engine (BobHelt at aol.com)

Hi Bob,

Yep - those be standard smog 110 head and standard smog pop-up pistons. Not
really any squish area in the heads to speak of. I seem to recall the
pop-up on the pistons is something like .120".

It comes back to me slowly, recollections of my '64 Spyder, which is still
(unfortunately) running with a bastard engine I built ages ago from a '68
110 with pop-up pistons to which I added '65 140 heads. I cc'd the chambers
and ended up adding 2 standard and one copper cylinder base gaskets to
arrive at a reasonable C/R. It always ran great, although I suspect the
pushrod geometry is off a bit :-)

I thought that I should put in my 2 cents worth. I find that cotton balls
with a few drops of mint oil works wonders. Keeps the mice etc. away.

I'm with Dorai on this one...
You can get peppermint oil quite easily, and I put a few drops (5 - 10) on a
cotton ball or two and toss it in the floorboard or under the seat... and it
smells MUCH better than mothballs!
The main thing is to make sure you have NO FOOD in the car (mice will chew
through 1/2" plywood to get to a piece of candy or a dropped 'tater
chip!)...
I drive my '64 until the snow flies... once the snow is gone and we've had a
rain or two, back out she comes... but the peppermint oil smells mighty
nice!
This time of the year I like to get one of those "balsam fir" bags from LL
Bean... those make the Corvair smell like "old timey winter"...
... now, where's that hot cup of apple cider...?
:-)

The Pirahna Drag Car is a more recent re-issue of the original drag car, and
still fairly common.
No Corvair parts though.
Why they chose to re-issue that instead of any of the other versions I don't
know.

I second this motion, and you can order them in more colors than black if
you want. He even offered mixed colors one time at a convention!

They sell a concoction of peppermint and other mint oils commercially as
a mouse repellant. I've seen it at the local hardware store and garden
center. I've not yet tried it, but may.

Yes, some are, I've even found the Corvair in the store computer sometimes.
However, in the particular case of the oil filter the Clark's filters are
pretty inexpensive and since no one around here has them on the shelf I have
been ordering them lately. I do have some common part numbers listed on my
tools page:

I hit a deer with my daily driver 1962 Monza coupe. All necessary parts to
repair the damage appear to be available, except the left headlight backing
plate (that the headlights mount to). Clarks lists it as Headlight backing
plate
part # CU1968, on page USED-34 of Clarks catalog, but they are out of stock.

Does anyone have one in decent shape they are willing to part with??If you
are
within a reasonable distance of South Boston, VA (south central?Virginia,
near
the NC border) that would be great, but?if need be the shipping cost from
most
anywhere should be manageable.

I appreciate any help - I drive my?Corvairs to work every day.
