wishes and his candor regarding his businesses. Thanks HANK

Larry Shapiro has spent 38 years as a Corvair enthusiast, and has
spent much of his time running his Corvair service and parts supply
businesses. As most of us know, Larry has also had his collector coin
business going at the same time. He didn’t get into the Corvair
business for the money, more of just an extension of the hobby that we
all share. Anyone who pulls a Corvair concours car from CA to Virginia
and get best in show is not the run of the mill enthusiast.
If you know a Corvair vendor, anyone who has run a Corvair restoration
business, or similar like a hot rod shop----you have heard the nightmare
stories that they can tell. Larry has his share as well, with
suppliers, potential competitors, customers, former employees (John
Sweet is not one of THOSE former employees), local gang bangers in LA,
etc.
Larry knows because he’s done it. Like any small business person, if
you have the ability and dedication to work 12-18 hours a day, and
plenty of 7 day weeks, you can make a healthy income from a business,
but that doesn’t come without a set of constant challenges.
After years in the Corvair Business, Larry “just wants out”. He has
a broker trying to sell his business to someone who would keep it a
going concern, as he fears that if his business is just liquidated,
that a lot of Corvairs will end up being scrapped instead of saved.
Larry didn’t know what RN Corvair Parts was until last night, turns out
it was something his real estate broker did which he didn’t authorize.
He didn’t even want it advertised for sale as a Corvair business. Larry
has had several instances of Corvair people who wanted to buy his
business at various times, but none of them could get the money,
despite them telling Larry they could. Even his own employees didn’t
know that he is trying to sell the business, but they’ll know now.
Larry admits that he hasn’t been in his current shop in about 3 months.
He doesn’t want to end up laying off his employees, selling off his
parts and other assets and holding a building he can’t sell.
So to summarize:

RN Corvair Parts is actually LS Corvair Parts. The business is for
sale, but like Corvair Underground (which has been on the seller’s
block for some time now) is still a going business concern.
Larry is looking to get out of the Corvair parts and service business
entirely, and would like to sell his company to an ideal buyer who
already has a successful old car parts and service business, who knows
what it takes to be successful, and can actually pay him for his
interest up front. Larry would help train employees in the Corvair
end of the business for a proscribed time period.
Had the broker not listed his business as a Corvair business
without informing Larry, none of us would know about this.
Again, Larry requests that he not be contacted by VV members or
Corvair Center Forum readers about his business at this time.
