EARLY converts had a hydraulic system , 2 cylinders replace the assist  
springs in the quarter panels (beside the rear seat bottom).electric pump is  
under the well cover.
lates have a motor driving 2 speedo type cables to a gear drive on each  
side.  i have parted out many of both over the years.....
 
i have pictures somewhere , but it is shown in detail in the assembly  
manuals sold by clark's corvairs.
i have converted a few either way..not a bad job really (if you have donor  
car , or ALL the parts).
