<VV> Battery - Early Model Stock post placement

JR, your statement that original batteries had the posts on the "inboard"
side is only correct for model years 1960 and 1965-69.
For all 1961-64 the stock batteries had the posts on the "outboard side.
The reason for this is that GM used the SAME battery design for ALL early
models (1960-64) - the only changes to the battery were internal (# of
plates per cell). All of them have the positive terminal in front and the
negative in the rear, and all have the posts located toward the left side of
the battery. As this battery was originally designed and placed in the 1960
on the RIGHT side of the engine compartment, the battery posts (and painted
side of the battery) are positioned on the INBOARD side. However, when the
same battery was placed on the LEFT side of the engine compartment
1961-1964, the posts and paint are on the OUTBOARD side. The original
1961-1964 battery cables (and Clark's stock reproductions) will reach to
these outboard facing posts with no difficulty; in fact, they are "too long"
for inboard posted batteries.
The 3-gang vented battery caps with hoses first appeared mid February of
1964, so any 1964 with a build date earlier than 02C (or maybe 02D) did NOT
have theses caps.
