Not being the least bit expert on the matter isn't going to stop me from  
weighing in on this thread.  My understanding is that the new E15 ethanol  
blend is currently being recommended only for cars built since 2007.   Further 
testing is being done by the EPA on "older" (whatever they take that to  
mean) cars.
 
When I lived in Pittsburgh in the mid-'80s I was driving a 1973  Pontiac 
Ventura (I called it a Nova in drag) that had a V8 (a 350, I think) that  
called for leaded gasoline.  I always filled up at a local cheapie station  (I 
think it was Arco).  After probably a couple of years of this I began  
smelling gasoline when the car was parked.  Being mechanically challenged I  took 
the car to my mechanic whom I trusted and he said the rubber fuel lines had  
swollen up like a balloon.  He attributed this to the ethanol in the  
gasoline that I had been using.  I had no idea it even had ethanol in  it.
