The problem with this theory is that the last high bidder may have also
put in a "really" high bid (say $500 for that Astro I) but only the
amount to out bid the previous high bid is showing -- the only way to
beat his bid is to outbid him -- and to know that, you have to initially
outbid, then come back with that really high Max bid -- that's why you
will occasionally see two identical bids from the same party. And then
there are the "bidding programs" ...
Really, it is simple -- bid what you'd be willing to pay, and, if you
get outbid, tomorrow is another day. There is always somebody out there
with more money than you, the only question being whether they are
interested in that item -- what are you willing to spend to see how fat
their bankroll is? Ain't evil-Bay fun?
