The irony is that somebody already invented them before, back in the 
day, then they all (well, most anyway) went away for lack of interest 
or use, eventually to end up sitting in a landfill or a recycle yard 
or now part of a washing machine made in China.   Either way they're 
almost all gone now, so we have to invent them again.
