<VV> Ring compressors

Hi gang,

While we're discussing ring compressors, way back when I did my last 
overhaul on a SBC, I used a ring compressor that looked like something 
this one:

Clark's sells something called a "crinkle band" (also known as a 
"wrinkle band") compressor which looks something like this:

Does anyone have any experience with the latter and offer any insight as 
to whether it's better for some reason (or worse)?
