My father was a B24 pilot. No combat. Arrived in Korea a couple days
before the war ended. He was on the first mission to fly American POWs out
of Japan. They used B24s with 2x6s strapped to the top of the bomb racks
for seats. One of the planes on that mission called a mayday and spun in,
killing the crew and 16 former POWs. That was his last flight in a B24.
After that all transporting of people was done in transport planes. He
spent 1946 flying C47s between Japan and Korea.
