I gave my weekend driver ('62 Monza coupe) a quick wash after doing some brake work, and attended a local car show yesterday. It was a fundraiser for the Motorsports Academy at our Middle school. This is an extracurricular program where the kids field a car at the local speedway. They do the car prep, repairs (including straightening sheetmetal), crew the car at the track, learn about the marketing aspects of racing, etc. One of the kids (14) even drives the car. The car show was a fundraiser for the program. Unfortunately, the threat of rain (and occasional actual rain) meant they only got about a third of the expected cars there.
I enjoyed the show, saw some cool cars and enjoyed talking to folks. A number of folks enjoyed seeing my Corvair, and of course some had stories. Showed one group of kids how you had to wait for a tube radio to warm up (they had never heard of such).
Even got a trophy ("Top 75"). There were only about 35 cars there, so I am not sure how the trophies were judged (not everyone got one). Had a lot of fun and got some exposure for our cars.
