Hey guys,
Just wanted to share what would seem to be a trivial occasion to most.
Today (well, May 22nd) was the 46th birthday of the engine in my 1964
700.... I've had this car since November 2003, and I went to look at it on a
whim, if just to see if I could fix it for the guy and keep another one on
the road... after seeing it I still didn't think too much of it... and then I
checked the build date on the Fisher tag and the engine number... the
Fisher tag said 06A, first week of June, the engine date was 0522, which just
also happened to be my Dad's birthday... so I took it as a sign... and
bought the little green car.
I stood next to that little car today and wished it a happy birthday... and
also wished my Dad a happy 85th, although he's been gone for almost 11
years... but it was Dad who introduced me to Corvairs around 1972 when I was
in Kindergarten, and it was Dad who helped get me interested in aircooled
automobiles (had about 10 VWs before my first Corvair, and not had a Vdub
since)... so, yeah... other than being one very funny, fun loving, silly,
intelligent (even with his 8th grade education) and devoted father, he helped
stir an interest in "vintage" cars...
Thanks Dad.... and like I said, Happy birthday. It's a shame I didn't catch
your passion for motorcycles...
;-)
And thanks to all my friends out there... he would have liked you guys...
Later,
Lonzo.... a wee bit reminiscent tonight....
