I had two of Earl's el-cheapo paint jobs put on my Corvairs in the 70's. I
had them paint my 65 Corsa coupe white ($19.95) and my 61 Lakewood metallic
blue ($39.95). They both looked pretty good at first. I did pull a chunk of
white paint off the decklid of the Corsa when I removed the masking tape for
my "Rustoleum" blue racing stripes. I had waxed only the decklid in an
attempt to bring back the original paint before I had Earl paint it. I guess
sanding was an option! The rest of the paint stayed on pretty well until the
Corsa t-boned a guard-rail at 50 mph. A lot of it flaked off then!
I sold the Lakewood to a buddy shortly after I painted it but I recently
stumbled across its remains in the back lot of a local repair shop. Almost
all of the metallic blue paint is gone! It hasn't been sanded off or been
repainted, it just fell off. It is now back to its beautiful light green
finish which really isn't too bad!
