My understanding more draws the wheels in, less pushes the wheels  out ???

Actually, isn't it "+"  or "-"? ..   it's of little consequence to us...


  We look at BACKSPACE... the distance from the back of the rim to the flat hub mounting area...


 The clearance to the outside is determined by the "stance"  of your vehicle... lowered means LESS...


That being said... I have 9"  wheels...  "+5"  offset....  BS  of 2",  and it is LOW...
