I'm in Illinois (as you know) and had a hard time explaining to a 20 
something cop why I could not dim the headlights in a Corvair while shifting 
gears!  The elevation (except near rivers) across the whole state is 
somewhere between about 450 and 750 above sea (lake?) level.
