Went to an Auction today where a 68 Corvair 500 was for sale.
Car read 49,000 miles on it, but not verified as real. A true NY car, still
had the A.I.R system on it, no radio, sculpted body out of bondo, and a
small crease front to rear down the drivers side. Still had dry rotted bias
tires, fair interior, visible bondo in the door jam by the door hinge on
driver's side. Motor did sound OK.
My son was interested so I went along. In my opinion, it was a $500-$700
car. First bid was $500, Second was $1000, car finally sold for $1700.
Before the auction, some guy in a mechanic's uniform saw us looking at the
car and started telling us how bad it was. He was the guy who bid first at
$500, but then walked away.
On the other hand, there was a 65 Rambler Classic 4-door, that was covered
front to rear with stick on chrome parts. Motor gushing oil, sold for $2000.
