<VV> Cadet=Corvair?

Hmm, I just noticed something.  A strange resemblance between the later Opel
Kadett and the early Vauxhall Chevette, on which the Chevy Chevette is
based.   

Could be?

I often wonder why the Opel Kadett didn't compete against the Toyota Corolla
of that day?   Priced wrong?  Marketed badly?   In those days the "Toyota
Quality" thing was not that well established in the early 70's.  Both GM and
Ford had cars in their European stable that could have competed against the
"Japanese imports", had they tried to do so.  The only Opel commercial I
remember is where it's trying to pull a pachyderm.  I think Ford also had a
little car from England called the Merkur or something similar.  But Chevy
did the Vega, and then the 'new' Monza, instead of trying to take the
competition where they were.  They tried to get Americans to buy something a
little bigger on the outside.

I also recall an Opel (marketed for a while in the US by GM) from late '50s 
or early '60s called "Cadet".  That must be yet ANOTHER Cadet?  Then, of 
course, there was the IH "Cadet" - small tractor.
