Never said that stock was the only way to go. Just that it shouldn't be
adulterated by modified cars.

And I can't agree with you more about the 13" tires. But you also have to
realize that back then 13's were used by a lot of cars, and even full-size
Chevy's had *only* 14" wheels. For some time I've said that they should
have had a 14" upgrade option for the Corvair. But then if they had, I
doubt that you'd find any Corvairs with 13" tires on them, as even the
stockers would "have the upgrade" on them (even if they really hadn't come
that way from the factory).
