FWIW, on my Farmall M tractor 12 volt rewire conversion, I use the coil at 
fulltime 12 volts, ( bypass the resistor ).. in order to get a good spark... 
makes about 20 years now, .... of course, I don't drive it to Oregon and 
back either (g).

Pertronix makes farm tractor units now... I hope to put one in my 
AllisChalmers D14 this summer.

Where the heck is summer ?????
