Even taking the tags in no guarantee. I've twice received parking tickets
for cars I've sold... one was a Mercedes I'd sold 4 years before (and kept
the plates) but the best was a Corvair ('67 AC coupe) I'd sold over a decade
before (and didn't keep the plates). Apparently that car has survived nearly
14 years in the streets of Maryland with tags that expired in 1996!
The Mercedes was actually sold to a dealer, but was connected to me by the
VIN when the out of state buyer didn't register it.
