When do you need the front plate ? It's the back plate that you see as a
car is driving away after running you over, and in the few seconds before
it
hit you, you probably weren't looking at the license plate number (you
were
looking at Elvis and a bright light in the distance) !

I've never had a front plate on any car here in California, and have never
been questioned about it in over 15 years.

The California Highway Patrol is the horsepower behind the front plate rule
in Ca. As far as the California legislature is concerned, the CHP is gold
- unless they want more money. Also, what else would all those prison
inmates do except punch out license plates - and teach each other their
"techniques"? When I bought my 1996 Camaro (new) I didn't put on a plate. I drove
it for almost 10 years with no front plate. After I bought my 2005
Corvette (still no front plate), I let my daughter drive the Camaro to Los Angeles
for a few weeks while her car was being repaired. The first night, she
parked it in front of her apartment house, and got a ticket for no front
plate. Arrgh!
