yesterday i took the 27,000 mile , 46 year old ujoints apart on "beatrice"  
and found one ready to fail , and the other one drier than a ....  and they 
 felt just fine. so now i have a new thing to check whenever they are out 
in the  open during engine removal . no matter how they feel  or look around 
the  edges , they could be ready to leave you.
