Hi Vairdad.

Sounds like something is moving around in the distributor.  Check the shaft for excessive play.  Check for up-and down motion as well.  Consider a "non-points" solution like Pertronix as no force is exerted against the shaft...

63 recently purchased. cleaned engine compartment rebuilt carbs, new plugs, 
 wires, points, dist. cap, rotor button, condensor. timing mark steady for 
a few  seconds then jumps about one inch then steady for few seconds then 
jumps again.  what is cause and how to fix problem. car not running when 
bought so not sure  how long problem. thanks for your help
