Hi all, have done some more research on oils and higher ZDDP levels. Have
found a mention on another hot rodder site that verify's that in 2006, the
Shell Rotella T oils do have the higher ZDDP in them. However, what has
happened since then is unknown, other than I got the below statement direct
from Shell in Nov 2009. The Oil I used then (which is still in the car) is a
CI-4.
Here are two other links I found. 1takes you to the Mobil 1site, and it
explains the ZZDP levels for their oils. 2, takes you to a well written oil
and flat tappet article that explains a bit of history and which oils to
look for. It appears the older CI-4 oils still have the higher ZDDP, but the
same brand and weight oil as a CJ-4 does not. Beware!
Happy reading.
