<VV> Your turn to talk with your ballot

It is that time of year again when all CORSA members are
invited to vote for their choice of candidates for the
Board of Directors. The officers of CORSA are selected at
the Board meeting held at the start of the annual
Convention from the pool of Board members present or
otherwise.
There are four seats available and six candidates vying
for them; five seeking election and one seeking
re-election. The Eastern Division is the only race that
can be considered a race. The other two Divisions will be
decided by default since there are no other challengers
for those positions.
But don't let that slow you down. Traditionally CORSA
Board elections have been, well, boring! Very few of the
dues paying members take the time to send a ballot back.
>From past discussions on this forum it is apparent to me
that some of you want some changes in CORSA. Right? If you
don't vote, what kind of message does that send to the
incumbents as well the members that are offering their
time and personal wealth to serve you? And after reading a
post from former Board Member James Rice you should know
that serving on the Board is not done for financial gain.
Quite the opposite! There is no more free ride for
Directors to attend the convention as was the case many
years ago when we had more members to help cover the
costs.
This forum, Virtual Vairs is a very good conduit to the
Corvair enthusiasts out there. Yes, the discussions get
heated at times. But at least there are discussions. We
can reach CORSA members as well as Corvair hobbyists who
have chosen not to join the parent club. Someone recently
called VV "most annoying". Here is my take on that: CORSA
can be considered a business. Right now it is about a
quarter million dollar a year business. We are a
not-for-profit business, so our only goal is to stay "in
business" and continue to serve our customers (members).
If the directors think of the customers as an annoyance,
do they have any business being in charge of that
business? I don't think so.
Do you approve of the current dues structure for CORSA? I
don't. Do you like the magazine? I do. Could we make it
better? Sure! Submit an article!! Do you like the website?
The word is an overhaul is coming. So is Christmas. I'd
like to know a little more about the progress in this
important area so I (we?) could help if help is needed.
Are you okay with the declining members numbers? The
selection of convention cities. Anything else related to
the club? Now is the time to take a break from your
keyboard and send that ballot back to Director/Secretary
George Jones down in Orlando. The more members voting the
stronger the message we are sending to the current Board.
If the results are just a whimper as in years past, then
they must be doing everything right? No? Then please vote!
And if you can't vote because you are not a CORSA member
but you know some members, bug them to mail the ballot
back.
Okay, I'll shut up now. -Caveman Pete in PA
