it is a touch easier if you have a parts harness. i have done several over
the years , and added spyder dash
if you study the diagram , you will see the feed wire to backup lights .
pull that one out of the connecter , add a new pin to the connector. run
those 2 wires to the backup switch. also basically the same on the neutral
safety...pull the connector pit out of the ignition switch (purple wire) put a
new one in with about 8 inches of the same gauge wire , hook those 2 wires
to the neutral safety switch. now you have to short the wires under the
car that used to go to the backup switch.
these type of jobs are why i save junk harnesses for connectors and wire. i
have several boxes of treasures like this , and a drawer of connectors i
saved over the years. in fact i just put on a tech session on how i do a
lot of this stuff along with BASIC electricity...which helps. plus how to
understand wire diagrams.
i may be able to take pictures later to help understand . i will be gone
most of today though. i think if you can find a parts junk PG dash harness
(the one with the fuse block included ) it will help you a lot with your
project. if not maybe someone can help you with the connector housings to
make it easier, neater, (and safer!) to do.i am adding a spyder dash to my
coupe as we speak , so i know well what you are up to. my tired ole back is
slowing me down a touch though. i just made my own (from scratch) engine
harness , using used connectors with a few new pins ( from clark's and NAPA
BELDEN) , and a new main body harness using parts from other cars and new
wires for added options , along with a heavier main B+ wire. saved bucks ,
made it the way i needed for all my toys. take your time , learn how to check
ciircuits before putting it in the car , and you can do it!
i hope this helps..
